The Wills' Anything But Ordinary Home House Tour | Apartment ...

TW_05_AP.jpg

Name: Josh & Tran Wills, Noah, Quynh, Ellie and Hesh
Location: RINO Art District, Denver, Colorado
Size: 2,800 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years

Two years ago the Wills said goodbye to their three-story Denver Square house and moved into a live/work/play space in the RINO arts district. Their building is warm and cozy and so much more than I could have imagined it to be on a cold and rainy fall day.

Once a month, Tran, the Social Media/PR/Events Gal at eBags/Handbags.com and Josh, the Creative Director at Factory Design Labs, roll back walls, open a very large garage door and transform the front room of their home into the "Super Ordinary Gallery". The space was designed so that with a few easy adjustments the living area can be closed off while the remainder functions as a public art gallery.

Upon moving in, the only existing features of the space were the shower and staircase leading out to the back yard, so the Wills quickly (and accurately, contractors were involved!) constructed three fun and functional bedrooms as well as a lofted office. The downstairs bedrooms have low ceilings and were built specifically for the kids until further renovations could be done. The build out date has arrived sooner than expected, though, as the kids are growing faster than anticipated!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: It's an eclectic blend of our influences. We like to play with juxtaposition and contrast. As people we are alike in many ways and different in many more; it's both fun and challenging to find a balance. Our style is a reflection of just that. Did we say eclectic?

Inspiration: Growing up in Colorado has shaped us both for better and worse. We draw inspiration from fashion, music, art, design, traveling and our children.

Favorite Element: The fact our kids can run around inside, skate, ride their scooter, swing, paint and be as loud as they want. Our kids can be kids. Josh takes advantage of these things as well?

Biggest Challenge: Turning an empty concrete box into a functional and comfortable living space for the family. We realize it's not for everyone, but it's most certainly home for us.

What Friends Say: More often than not there is a little shock and awe. People usually geek out on the art, especially when we are in gallery mode.

Biggest Embarrassment: The backyard still needs some love, we've got a few crooked cabinets, and our oldest son is growing taller a lot quicker than we anticipated.

Proudest DIY: The entire project. This has been something we've joked about doing on and off for several years. We've taken down a few other projects together in our days, but this has been a constant labor of love. We're constantly tweaking and evolving the space, which is one of the things we enjoy most about living here.

Biggest Indulgence: Our couch, hands down. The GUS modern sectional was one of our first real 'adult' purchases.

Best Advice: Your home should be an extension of who you are. Have fun and surround yourself with things that make your heart smile daily.
