PGT: Tiger might be ineligible for WGC event

Tiger Woods has won more World Golf Championships than anyone, by far. He has 16 wins in the four events that now comprise the series. Perhaps more importantly, he has never failed to qualify for the field in any of them ? though he has failed to play in them due to injury.

Unless Woods gets a win under his belt in the next couple of months, though, the world No. 33 will be ineligible for a WGC for the first time.

According to the Press Association, Woods must win an official event or get inside the top-25 in the Official World Golf Ranking to get into the HSBC Champions at the start of November ? the week prior to his paid appearance in the Australian Open and two before the Presidents Cup.

By not qualifying for the FedExCup playoffs, though, Woods will not having a playing opportunity on the PGA Tour before the very end of September in the Fall Series. Woods has not indicated if he will play in any of those events to bolster his world ranking.
