The mission: To launch ORS-1, a Department of Defense satellite built for the Operationally Responsive Space Office.

ORS-1 would be the Operationally Responsive Space Office's first working satellite. They?d let us play with the cash register until the insistent buzzing of the error messages drove the customers crazy, and then they?d send us back to my mom with a free pack of gum each from the front counter display.

This was like winning the lottery for my brother and I, who usually had to split a piece of my mom?s highly coveted Wrigley?s gum.? Whoever had the honor of tearing the piece of my mom?s gum, the other one got to choose their half, and no matter what I always seemed to wind up with the littlest chunk of rapidly flavorless Doublemint.? Jerkface.

Noodle Salad with Peanut Mmmm Sauce

Serves 4

Print this recipe!

Peanut Mmmm Sauce:

1/2 c. light coconut milk
1/2 c. fire-roasted tomatoes in juice (i.e. Muir Glen Organic Fire Roasted Tomatoes)
1/4 c. natural peanut butter
3 T. reduced sodium soy sauce
juice of 1 lime
2 t.. minced ginger
1 t. minced garlic
1 T. agave or maple syrup or 1 packet of stevia
sriracha to taste (optional)

Noodle Salad:

8 oz. rice noodles
1 red bell pepper, chopped
2 c. bok choy, chopped
2 c. edamame, frozen or fresh
1/4 c. fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
1/4 c. peanuts, chopped

For the sauce, combine coconut milk, tomatoes, peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, ginger, garlic, sweetener and sriracha, if using, in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.

This batch was for the kiddos, so I didn?t add any sriracha, but you can adjust the heat by adding more or less to taste.

Oh yes, you must taste it. ?Feel free to moan, but do not cut your tongue on the blender blades.

Consider yourself warned.

Meanwhile, prepare rice noodles according to package directions.? Drain and set aside.

Coat a large skillet with cooking spray or a spritz of oil and place over medium high heat.? Add bell pepper, bok choy and edamame and stir fry until crisp tender, about 4-5 minutes.

A Kansas City man has been charged with receiving stolen property after police discovered three laptop computers taken from a tornado-damaged elementary school here. Charles C. Rice, 41, was arrested Monday after police had been contacted by the owner of a computer technology company. He said he had been asked by Rice to unlock a secured laptop computer. Inside, the computer was identified as property of the Joplin School District. According to a statement that accompanied the charges filed by the Jackson County prosecutor?s office, Rice told the company owner that he had more computers to unlock. Officers, who discovered other laptops, contacted school security officials, who confirmed that the computers had been stolen.

Lawmakers send Obama message of discontent on Libya (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? A move to curb President Barack Obama's military intervention in Libya was defeated in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday, despite having the support of leaders of the majority Republicans.

But Obama was delivered a symbolic rebuke hours earlier when lawmakers refused another measure to formally authorize U.S. participation in the NATO-led Libya mission.

The twin votes starkly highlighted the ambivalence on Capitol Hill over U.S. involvement in Libya's civil war. Some lawmakers argue that Obama violated the 1973 War Powers Act by failing to secure Congressional authorization after 60 days of hostilities, an argument the White House rejects.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the administration was gratified the House had "decisively rejected" efforts to restrict funding for U.S. involvement in the operation, adding that it was important to keep up the pressure on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The measure would have allowed U.S. forces to continue providing reconnaissance, refueling, planning and other services to the NATO-led mission in the North African nation but would have barred them from carrying out both manned and drone air strikes against Gaddafi's forces.

Since NATO took over the Libya operation on March 31, the United States has conducted 755 strike sorties, including 119 in which the planes actually fired at targets. Thirty-nine of the strikes involved the use of drone aircraft.

The White House, however, expressed disappointment over the failure of the separate Democratic-backed measure that would have authorized the United States to continue its limited involvement in the Libya mission for a year.

"Now is not the time to send the kind of mixed message that it sends when we are working with our allies to achieve the goals that we believe are widely shared in Congress," White House spokesman Jay Carney said. "The writing is on the wall for Colonel Gaddafi and now is not the time to let up."

The congressional actions were another warning to Obama about growing discontent among lawmakers after a decade of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that have cost more than $1 trillion and have helped fuel a $1.4 trillion budget deficit.

The United States and its NATO allies launched the U.N.-backed mission against Libya more than three months ago, aiming to prevent Gaddafi's forces from attacking civilians in regions opposed to his rule. The U.N. authorized a no-fly zone and an arms embargo to put additional pressure on Gaddafi. The mission now appears to have the unstated goal of driving Gaddafi from power.

MIXED FEELINGS

The House, which is controlled by Republicans, voted 180-238 to reject the Republican measure to curb U.S. involvement in Libya. Eighty-nine Republicans joined Democrats in opposing it.

Both House Speaker John Boehner and Representative Buck McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, had endorsed the measure. Boehner said the House was forced to act because Obama had failed to fulfill his obligation to consult with Congress.

"I support the removal of the Libyan regime ... ," Boehner said. "But when the president chooses to challenge the powers of the Congress, I, as speaker of this House, will defend the constitutional authority of the legislature."

McKeon said the measure would continue to provide NATO with the essential backing it needed to carry out the mission while helping "the president to be truthful in saying that we're not engaged in hostile action."

"The president has repeatedly stated that the United States is not engaged in hostilities and that congressional authorization is not necessary to continue our role in this operation," McKeon added. "I share with many of my colleagues the view that firing a missile at a target in a foreign nation does indeed constitute hostile action."

Many lawmakers professed mixed feelings over the vote. Representative Mike Rogers, head of the House intelligence committee, backed the measure and criticized Obama's failure to explain his Libya policy. But he added "that doesn't change the fact that the United States has important strategic interests in finishing the job there."

A spokesman for Representative Mike Honda, a leading member of a bloc of left-leaning House Democrats, said the measure had failed because it amounted to a "back door authorization" of the Obama administration's course of action, providing it with funding and legal authority for most of what it was already doing.

The House voted 123-295 to reject the resolution that would have authorized Obama to continue with the limited U.S. mission in Libya for a year.

Dave Matthews Band Caravan Pulls Into Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — For the first stop on its traveling roadshow, the Dave Matthews Band Caravan brought a rootsy collection of friends to dusty Bader Field on Friday. And even after a career-spanning set that included "Don't Drink the Water," "Satellite" and "Why I Am," DMB still have plenty of hits to draw from for the next two headlining performances of their inaugural three-day festival.

Matthews gave nods to almost all of the day's supporting acts, mentioning Delta Spirit, Carolina Chocolate Drops and The Head & The Heart, and saying, "It was a pleasure to share the stage with Ray Lamontagne." David Ryan Harris, who played Friday afternoon, joined the band for perennial crowd favorite "Jimi Thing" from their 1994 debut, Under the Table and Dreaming.

Grammy-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin proved his chops early, tearing into "You Might Die Trying." Coffin has played with DMB since LeRoi Moore's 2008 ATV accident and death. His Mu'tet ensemble was one of the first acts of the day.

Also pulling double duty was guitarist Tim Reynolds, first appearing in the afternoon with TR3. Reynolds will also join Matthews for an acoustic set Saturday afternoon (June 25).

A memorable aspect of any DMB show is the quirky frontman's non sequiturs, and Friday night was no exception. Matthews shared these gems: "Facial hair is so transformative" and "Too much morphine will make you constipated," after debuting a version of "Buena" by '90s alt-rockers Morphine.

Matthews unleashed his impressive wail on "Grey Street," and the show took a romantic turn when the band followed "Crash" with "You and Me" and "Shake Me Like A Monkey."

Returning from a break, Matthews warned, "I think we might f--- it up, but we're gonna try anyway," before his acoustic adaptation of Procol Harum's 1967 classic "A Whiter Shade of Pale."

Another cover closed out the set, as the band stunned the audience by playing Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" for the first time ever in concert. Though not exactly channeling Robert Plant, Matthews did sound oddly unlike himself on the vocals, in a rendition highlighted by a deft guitar solo.

And though, rather than returning for a second encore, the band ended 30 minutes shy of their scheduled 11 p.m. ending time, most in the audience, anticipating another two long days capped by three-hour DMB sets, seemed relieved to be shuffling off the grounds.

Previously that evening, the Flaming Lips proved it's never too early for them to bring the weird. Flanked by sunglass-wearing, bopping Dorothys, Scarecrows, Tin Men and Cowardly Lions, they shared their ultra-psychedelic take on Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, playing the album in its entirety, interspersed with choice selections from "The Wizard of Oz."

Those looking for something lighter found instrumental jam band Lotus keeping it groovy as the sun set. An ocean breeze brought welcome relief from the hot and humid day as seagulls cruised overhead.

O.A.R., Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Thievery Corporation join the caravan Saturday, while Sunday's festivities will feature David Gray, Dr. Dog, Bassnectar and Michael Franti with Spearhead.

The party travels to Chicago in July, returns to the East Coast in August for a weekend at New York's Governors Island and wraps up at The Gorge in Washington in early September.

The entire mortgage process will be simlified by your agent, negotiate the best conceivable products and lowest rates on your behalf. They do the paperwork and provide you with the peace-of-mind that you are getting the best solution possible for your investment properties. You will be given an explanation of the entire process and have all of your questions from beginning to end answered. It is very common to have a mortgage agent show up at your house for a 9:00 p.m. appointment for your convenience (try to get a banker to come to your house). They will provide maximum flexibility in financing choices and advise you on credit and mortgage qualifications.

A mortgage agent gets paid from the lender that the mortgage was arranged with called a finders fee. Sometimes there is a brokerage fee which is paid by the borrower, depending on the circumstances. Mortgagebroker also have access to profit lenders in which case a brokerage fee is added. More frequently than not the lender pays a finders fee to the agent and there is no brokerage fee.
